With his Afterpiece Tonic and Antidote, he is now more complex and arguably a lot more fun to play since there are a lot of opportunities for him to get hits where he could not before.

The Clown Power & Perks in Dead by Daylight

Before we delve into the best builds for The Clown, let's look at this killer's power and teachable perks, so you know what you're working with.

First, here are The Clown's three teachable perks:

Perk: Bamboozle

  • Vault at a faster speed. After you vault, the Entity will temporarily block that vault location for Survivors.

Perk: Coulrophobia

  • Survivors receive a severe penalty to healing speed while in your Terror Radius.

Perk: Pop Goes The Weasel

  • After hooking a Survivor, damage a generator for massive regression

Power: The Afterpiece Tonic

The Clown's power is called "The Afterpiece Tonic." The in-game description reads as follows:

  • Begin a Trial armed with 5 bottles of the Clown’s poisonous concoctions.
    • The purple Afterpiece Tonic can be thrown to disorient, direct, and hinder Survivors, whose coughing fits make them easier to track.
    • The Yellow Afterpiece Antidote grants a burst of speed that closes distance with deadly efficacy.

Best Clown Builds In Dead By Daylight

The Clown can slow survivors down with the Afterpiece Tonic or use his Afterpiece Antidote to speed them up and bring them closer to him at wise times. He can also use his Afterpiece Antidote to speed himself and gain distance. Overall, The Clown is very versatile.

As such, there are many different ways you can play this killer. Here are just a few of the top Clown builds that you can try.

Beginner Clown Build

If you are just getting started as a new Clown main, it might be hard to decide which perks to use. The Clown can use his power to succeed in loops but needs help damaging generators and navigating the map. As such, this build helps him patch up those weaknesses.

  • Jolt
  • Pop Goes The Weasel (The Clown)
  • Whispers
  • Hex: No One Escapes Death

All of the perks included in this build are general perks, meaning they either come by default with The Clown or can be found in the Bloodweb of all killers without prestiging or reaching level 50.

Jolt and Pop Goes The Weasel both provide generator regression, ensuring you have time to earn hooks throughout the match. Whispers help you find survivors so you can hook them and earn value from both of your regression perks. Hex: No One Escapes Death gives you a boost at the end of the match in case you want to earn those final kills or make your comeback.

Oppressive Hex Clown Build

Using Hex perks on The Clown to create an incredibly oppressive build to use against survivors can be fun. With this Hex-focused loadout, you can leave survivors scrambling to cleanse your totems. If they cleanse the wrong ones, they are in a world of trouble.

  • Hex: Devour Hope (The Hag)
  • Hex: Undying (The Hag)
  • Hex: Haunted Ground: (The Spirit)
  • Corrupt Intervention (The Plague)

Corrupt Intervention provides you early game slowdown so you can find survivors and begin to get value from the Hexes in this build. Hex: Devour Hope will not only allow you to insta-down survivors but also Mori them once you get 5 tokens. Hex: Undying will require them to find Devour Hope twice, while Haunted Ground is a distraction. If survivors cleanse Hex: Haunted Ground, this will also make them Exposed for 60 seconds, worsening their affliction.
